New Era Square’s Pandas Officially Named! 🐼

The pandas at New Era Square have become one of Sheffield’s most eye-catching landmarks — and now they officially have names!

Last month, we teamed up with The Star to invite readers to suggest names for our panda family. The response was incredible, with dozens of creative and thoughtful ideas sent in. To help us make the final call, The Star editor, Nancy Fielder, stepped in to choose from the shortlist.

And the results are in…

🐼 Little Mester – The panda sitting on the bench in the public square.

The name pays tribute to Sheffield’s proud heritage, where “Little Mesters” were skilled craftsmen working independently in small workshops, particularly in the city’s cutlery trade.

🐼 Hendo – The mama bear.

A simple yet strong name, chosen exactly as it was suggested by the community.

🐼 Coe Coe – The adventurous panda climbing the building.

This fun, quirky name captures the lively spirit of the panda who’s always on the move!

These names reflect not only the creativity of Sheffield’s community but also the city’s unique character and culture. The pandas have already become a favourite photo spot for visitors, and now with their names, they’re set to be an even bigger part of New Era Square’s story.

📍 Next time you visit, don’t forget to say hello to Little Mester, Hendo, and Coe Coe!
